Communion Setup by Intinction

Preparation Instructions

1-2 DAYS PRIOR TO THE WORSHIP SERVICE

  1. Publix Bakery:  Purchase two round loafs of bread per worship service.  One loaf is uncut for the Pastor to break during communion.   Have the other loaf SLICED for intinction.    We recommend using a loaf that has cooled off for the slicing machine.   Instruct them to slice the bread once, then rotate it and slice it a second time perpendicular to the first.   The result is a long-cubed bread that is easily held without congregants dipping their fingers in the juice.
  2. Reimbursement:  If you would like to be reimbursed for communion elements, please turn your receipts into Karen Geeter along with a reimbursement form (available online).  Alternatively, you may turn in your receipt with a note to Karen that you’d like to make the amount a contribution to the church.

ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE WORSHIP SERVICE

  1. In the NPC Breakroom, obtain ceramic plates (5), chalices (4) and pitcher.
  2. Divide the cubed bread on 4 plates.
  3. Place a few prepackaged gluten-free communion kits in the middle of each bread plate
  4. Cover bread with white napkins (in drawer to right of sink)
  5. Fill the pitcher with enough juice for the minister to pour into one empty chalice
  6. Setout FOUR chalices and fill with juice HALFWAY. Please do not overfill the chalices.
  7. Return Pitcher and Chalices to refrigerator until ready for setting up the table.

COMMUNION TABLE SETUP

  1. Place the cross on the organ facing the congregation.
  2. The candles remain on the table.
  3. Place the Large White pottery plate with the round loaf in center of table toward the rear.
  4. Place the Large White pottery pitcher and an empty chalice in front of round loaf.
  5. Place four pottery plates as neatly as possible around the candles and large plate
  6. Place a chalice near each plate.
  7. Mixing the pottery is encouraged - it does not have to match (White, Blue, Purple)

 AFTER THE WORSHIP SERVICE

  1. Assemble the Travel Communion Kit for the deacons (if it is not in the kitchen, look in David’s office on the shelf nearest the door. It is a brown leather zippered “box” )
  2. Dispose or take home any leftover bread.
  3. Dispose of grape juice in the chalices.
  4. All pottery and ceramics are dishwasher safe, liquid detergent is under the sink. Start the dishwasher and Beth and David will put away on Monday morning. Non-pottery communion ware must be hand washed, dried, and returned to pantry closet.
