Obituary

Walter Ulrich Schramm of Newnan, GA died peacefully in home hospice care on February 9, 2025. He was 87 years old. A celebration of life will be held at Newnan Presbyterian Church, 38 Greenville St, Newnan GA 30263 on Saturday March 1, 2025, at 1pm. His final resting place will be in Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Walter was born in Summit, NJ and grew up in Springfield, NJ. He met his wife Elaine at the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, and they married in 1962. They bought their first home in Westfield, NJ, and he worked for Shell Chemical Co., commuting to NYC for a year. He also went to school in the evenings and earned his real estate license.

In 1973, Walter and Elaine moved with their four children and poodle, Mitzi, to south Florida, where they lived for seventeen years. Walter worked for Miami Rug Co. and started the first of several successful businesses with Elaine.

The couple moved to GA in 1989, living first in Peachtree City and later in Newnan. Walter again applied his artistic sensibilities to several businesses including a booth at Collector's Corner in Sharpsburg. He and Elaine owned and operated the award-winning Treasure House Antique Shop in Jonesboro from 1998 until their retirement in 2006.

Walter was a devoted husband and dedicated family man, a talented piano player, a creative artist, and an excellent storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor. He was also passionate about real estate and enjoyed previewing, buying, and selling homes. Over the course of his life, he owned eleven different properties. He was a humble man, but he was proud that he was often able to "make something outta nothing."

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Martin Schramm and Carleen Bertha (Stoll) Schramm, brother Robert Schramm, brother David Schramm, grandson Alex Robinson, and son-in-law Larry Robinson.

Walter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine, and his four children: Lori Schramm and her partner Jackie Patterson, Susan Robinson, Stephen Schramm and his wife Teri, and Jeffrey Schramm. He was a proud grandfather of six grandchildren: James and his wife Stephanie Schramm, Jason Robinson, Elizabeth and her husband Trevor Craft, Rebekah Schramm, and Patrick Schramm; and three great grandchildren Ethan and Aubrey Schramm and John Craft.
