Obituary
Mrs. Linda Speed Hubbard of Newnan, Georgia passed away on Monday, August 5th, 2024. She was born in Augusta, Georgia on September 9, 1946, to the late Preston Brooks Speed III and Ellen Evans Speed. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William Venable "Bill" Hubbard Jr., and her brother, Preston Brooks Speed IV.
Linda graduated from Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida and attended Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina. Her professional life included over 30 years with Leon County Schools in Tallahassee, Florida, where she worked in various roles, ending her career as the executive assistant to the superintendent.
Her favorite memories were made with her husband, children, and grandchildren including many vacations, holidays, and celebrations spent together. Linda was always willing to do anything her children asked of her, and especially anything her grandchildren asked! She was truly the definition of love. Linda made others feel special and celebrated, always uplifting those around her with many, many compliments.
Linda was an extremely devoted Christian; her faith journey and church family meant the world to her. Many of her closest friendships were made through her church community. Linda and Bill were members of Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, Florida before joining Newnan Presbyterian Church when moving to town. Linda served as a deacon at Newnan Presbyterian Church and particularly enjoyed caring for the elderly members. Her legacy will always be remembered as a result of the establishment in 2011 of the Bill and Linda Hubbard Endowment Fund at Newnan Presbyterian Church.
Linda will be dearly missed by all who knew her and most of all by the family she left behind. Survivors include her daughter, Kim Wise (Winn) and son, Tripp Hubbard (Kelly); grandchildren, Maggie deGolian (Phillip), Preston Wise (Maggie), Molly Hubbard, and Kegley Hubbard; sister, Janelle Siegel (David), sister-in-law, Joan Speed, and brother, James Speed (Rae).
A service celebrating Linda's life will be held at Newnan Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 9th at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Jones II and Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. Interment will follow at the historic Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be on Thursday, August 8th from 5-7 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.
